Weekends for adventure are few and far between when you are a wedding photographer. Things like a weekend getaway or sleeping in on a Saturday don’t happen often and when they do you enjoy every second. Since the wedding “off season” will be coming to a close soon we decided to take a little trip to celebrate the season & start 2016 off right. We had the best time & I just had to share incase you too are in the market for a little getaway!
Ya’ll pack your bags right now and get to The Greenbrier in West Virginia.
It’s overflowing with floral wallpaper, afternoon tea, & sweet southern hospitality. The mix of southern charm and (let’s be honest a casino) made it the perfect little weekend getaway for us. It’s just a short 3 hour trip from Richmond and well worth it! Our recommendations of what to do & eat are highlighted below:
Afternoon Tea (get there early to see the Greenbrier Waltz & to secure a seat to enjoy your tea).
Eat at Draper’s – You don’t need a reservation and it’s literally cute as a button. Like the rest of the resort it’s decked out in Dorothy Draper floral décor & it’s awesome. Anything to watch my sweet husband sit in a floral pink chair & drink from a pink glass at dinner. I had the southwestern salad & he had the cheesesteak, add on a few drinks and we got out of there at right around a hundred dollars.
Sleeping in – The bedding at The Greenbrier is out of this world. So soft & inviting, we have already looked into where to buy it all and have subsequently opened a Greenbrier dream bedding savings account. & by the year 2076 it will be all OURS!
Breakfast buffet in the main dinning room – This was included in our Bed & Breakfast packaged we booked (Such a good deal!) It was an awesome perk and we highly recommend it. The breakfast was in the fancy main dinning room and included everything from an omelet station to a daily variety of southern inspired gourmet breakfast foods.
The Casino – So we didn’t win it big, ok or win at all. But it was SO fun & we lost just enough to keep us occupied for a few hours each night. & the biggest perk is there is NO smoking allowed in the Casino.
Below 42 Dance Club – So I’m kinda glad we only ran into a few people that Robby knew because we pretty much broke it downnnnnnnn. We danced like teenagers (minus the grinding, I mean come on we are adults… well pretend to be). They had an awesome DJ and we danced for hours seriously hours.
Eat at The Forum– Great Italian food and the sweetest little date night spot. Reservation is recommended. We had an appetizer, shared a salad, & both had small pizzas as our entrée. Washed it down with a dirty martini & a glass of red wine and left at right around one hundred and twenty dollars. Worth every penny. If you are into big steaks and finer dinning, they do have a handful of fancier restaurants but we kept our dinning simple as the resort itself was a splurge.
Walk the grounds – We only did this for about 30 minutes because it was freezing. When our eyelids weren’t frozen we saw the new Chapel they built for weddings. It’s gorgeous & so sweet that brides of The Greenbrier now have the option of getting married in a Chapel.
